Hoatzin

Hoatzin is a strange bird indeed. The only bird that can digest plant matter, the hoatzin chick has claws on its wings- a reminescent of its dinosaur ancestry from dromaeosaurs.

Am smitten beyond belief.

Turacos also have young with tiny claws on their digits and they scrample through the folliage like nestling hoatzins. Mousebirds, ducks, geese and others also eat folliage.

Hoatzins, turacos, and cuckoos are perhaps the only birds that "chew" their food.
